Description

Its no wonder Llyn-y-fan fach is associated with ancient folklore; so beautiful in its isolation and with its dark, mysterious waters. The tale goes that whilst a farmer tended his cattle next to the lake a goddess appeared from the lake. Enticed by bread, she agreed to marry him on the condition the he would not strike her three times. Unfortunately, for one reason or another he failed to uphold his end of the bargain and she returned to the lake with all the farmers animals.

A slightly more recent happening is when the lake was dammed in WWII by conscientious objector instead of sending them to fight.

Not the easiest walk I've done - it was about 13 miles and took me 7 hours. Also, those clouds are not so friendly when you get caught in one of their showers. At one point I could only see about 10 yards - not the best conditions when your on top of these cliffs.

The dam was actually built by World War I conscientious objectors who worked under apalling conditions. They were given the right to refuse to kill under the 1916 Military Service Act. If all men had built dams etc instead of killing each other, World War I wouldn't have happened.
